Keywords: ebook, ezine, list, mailing list, subscribe, subscribers Article Body: OK. We all know by now that to make real money on the Net, six-figure money, you need to publish your own ezine. This is the best way to send out your sales pitch to people who will read it. And, because they are already interested in the subject, they are more prone to buy from you. If you have questions about starting an ezine, that's another article. Grab a copy of my article, "I'll Show You Mine." Get it where you got this article, or visit my site by following the link at the bottom of this article. Now, the key to big money is your ezine. Right? Well, it's about 10% right. The other 90% is the size of your mailing list. These are the people who have subscribed, or otherwise asked to be receiving your ezine. So, the principle is simple. Size matters! The bigger your mailing list, or subscriber base, the more people receive your ezine. Which means - more people see your sales pitch. Which means - more people will buy from you. Which means - you make more money! Well, principles are always simple. You need a big mailing list. The question most people ask is, "how?" The question of how is not only the most common question, but it is also the correct question. Because, most people don't make money because they don't get their message in front of enough people. So, here's a quick list of some ideas to get you off and running for free. Have a subscribe link very visible on the main page of your website. This is the most obvious thing to do, and the most often overlooked. Many people will come to your websites home page, think it looks good, bookmark it for later, move on, and never come back. Don't let this happen. Have a "subscribe box" or subscribe link displayed on the visible part of the page. If the visitor likes the site, give them the chance to subscribe before the bookmark & move on. Not only do you gain a subscriber you would have missed, but also in the ezine - you get the chance to remind them to come back to your site. Have a subscribe link somewhere on every other page of your site. Another obvious thing that gets overlooked. On every page of your website you need a way for your visitor to subscribe. Depending on the topic of the page, it may be up top or at the bottom. Near the top is always better. Your visitor may not scroll to the bottom. But, sometimes, it just doesn't match the content of the page if you put it at the top. Place free ads in ezines where possible announcing your ezine. Many ezines will offer new subscribers the opportunity to place a free ad. Subscribe to as many of these ezines as you can. You can gain a lot of new subscribers fast this way. Search for your list of ezines in your content area & subscribe. Then when you can, place an ad. You might also offer this in your ezine. It can help attract other publishers. Keep up with them, and a few months later - suggest an ad swap. Use pop-unders, or exit pop-ups or unders. OK. We all hate them. But they work. Make them work for you. Just don't annoy your visitors by using lots of them. One pop up/pop under upon leaving you site is enough. Use it for one last reminder to subscribe to your ezine. If possible, get one that only pops up if the visitor has not subscribed before moving on. No point reminding some to subscribe if they already have. Take advantage of ezines that offer "ad swapping." It's a basic concept. Instead of charging for ads, swap ads with another ezine with a similar number of subscribers. It gives you the chance to get a lot of subscribers with one ad. Remember, the closer the two ezines are in content, the more subscribers you will gain. You will be wasting your effort to advertise your marketing ezine in an ezine for fans of Elton John. Offer a free bonus for new subscribers. Make use of free ebooks. Most successful ezine publishers give out free bonuses for subscribing. There's more free ebooks available than you could read in a lifetime. Find a couple that match your ezine content and give them away. Then, find a few more to offer to your regular subscribers every few months. An incentive to keep subscribing. If you can find an ebook that can be branded with at least your website address, that's even better. Every time the ebook is opened, there's a reminder of where it came from. And, if that person passes the ebook along to someone else - your address is still there. I might add, at this point, that I have an ebook you can use for this purpose. If you like this article, try the ebook. Grab it at the URL at the end of the article. Use a signature file in your email directing people to subscribe. One of the basics. Every time you send out email correspondence, be sure you have a plug for your ezine or website. Keep it to 3 or 4 lines. As simple as this is, it's one of the easiest things to do to add a few new subscribers from time to time. How many will depend on how many emails you usually send out. Remember - no spam. If you can write, give away your free articles - with links. Many places on the Internet provide free content for ezine publishers. Do a search on your favorite site for a list of them. Every time you write an article, go to these sites. Make the articles available for anyone & everyone to publish. In the "resource box" at the bottom of your article include your subscribe link, or your website link. When readers like your article, they are likely to visit your site. Once there - subscribe them. All right. That's a quick list of some free methods to build a subscriber base, or mailing list, for your ezine. I know there are many other ways, but space is limited for this article. Good luck and good building. ------------- This article is copyright © 2002. Dan Levy. All rights reserved, except as noted.
